Dr. King was born April 27, 1946, in Ann Arbor, Mich., and grew up in Greensboro where he attended Page High School. He captained the varsity football team at Hampden-Sydney College and graduated in 1969 with a degree in political science. Dr. King then attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine and completed his residency in orthopaedic surgery at Wake Forest University Medical Center. He was a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, a Diplomat of the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, a member of the North Carolina Orthopaedic Association, the Arthroscopy Association of North America, Forsyth-Stokes-Davie County Medical Society, North Carolina Medical Society, Southern Medical Association, American Medical Association, Eastern Orthopaedic Association and an NCHSAA team physician.
Dr. King was most at peace tending to his garden where he taught many life lessons and spent countless hours with his wife, Donna. He loved talking with his children, of whom he was extremely proud, and sharing in their achievements. Dr. King was an accomplished artist and craftsman, talents that he often used to create personalized gifts for family and friends. He was also an avid reader and aficionado of history and politics. He believed strongly in the importance of faith, family, education and hard work. He is deeply loved by his children, family and friends; his patients and coworkers at Orthopaedic Specialists of the Carolinas, especially his medical assistant Loretta Morris, Forsyth Medical Center and Orthopaedic Specialists Surgical Center; and the hundreds of high school athletes he cared for. He will be missed dearly by all of those who love him.
The family is forever grateful for the outpouring of love and support it has received.
