Addie Crotts

August 17, 1920 — December 10, 2009

Addie Mae Crotts, 89, died on Thursday, Dec. 10, 2009. Her memorial service will be at 12 p.m. on Saturday at Grace Baptist Temple by Pastor Ed Sears and Pastor Mike Smith. Mrs. Crotts was born on Aug. 17, 1920, in Arcadia, but lived most of her life in Norfolk, Va., where her husband of 68 years, Clyde Crotts, found employment as a crane operator after WW II at the Norfolk Naval Base. She was preceded in death by her father, Curtis Huffman; mother, Pearl Huffman; sister, Kathleen Weaver; brother, Jasper Huffman; and brother, Dallas Huffman. She is survived by her husband; a daughter, Vickie Johnson and husband, Gene, of Charlotte; a son, Rick Crotts and wife, Paula, of Baytown, Texas; a sister, Polly Craver of Arcadia; sisters-in-law, Dorothy and Daisy Huffman; two grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Early this year, Mrs. Crotts and her husband relocated to Winston-Salem to be nearer friends and family. They took up residence at Homestead Hills where she quickly made a multitude of new, cherished friends. Mrs. Crotts enjoyed church work, homemaking, reading, working in her yard, visiting friends, and supporting her family. She and Clyde were frequent travelers who relished both bus tours and ocean cruises. Their many travels took them to far flung places like Mexico, Canada, Nova Scotia and Hawaii. Their last ocean cruise was to the island of Bermuda in 2008. Addie was a devoted member of Norview Baptist Church in Norfolk for 30 years. She proclaimed her faith not in words but in her emulation of the Savior's essential message of love. Hers was a testimony of a life well lived in service to others. She leaves behind a multitude of lives influenced for the better. Her memory will be cherished in many hearts. More recently Addie and her husband attended Grace Baptist Temple in Winston-Salem. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hospice House, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, 27103 or Grace Baptist Temple, 3305 Peters Creek Parkway, Winston-Salem, NC 27127-6710, or Norview Baptist Church, Norfolk, Va.
