Addie Sexton Oakes, 61, of Clark Snider Road, died Monday, April 16, 2012, at Hinkle Hospice House following an extended illness.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday, April 19, 2012, at Gospel Light Freewill Baptist Church in Thomasville, where she was a member, with the Revs. James Shetley and Butch Owens officiating. Burial will follow in Arrington Heights Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8p.m. Wednesday, April 18, 2012, at Davidson Funeral Home and other times at the home on Clark Snider Road.
Mrs. Oakes was born February 18, 1951, in Madison County, to William McKinley Sexton and Mary Inez Pressell Stanley. She was a cashier at Speedy’s Barbecue. In addition to her father she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert “Bob” Lee Oakes, who died September 22, 2010; a daughter, Wanda Martinez; and granddaughter, Jade Bell.
Surviving in addition to her mother of Lexington are a son, Steven McMinn and wife, Shanda, of Lexington; daughter, Mary Katherine Bell and husband, Buddy, of Winston-Salem; grandchildren, Steven Bell, Alton Bell III, April Bell and Aaron Bell, all of Winston-Salem; brothers, Alfred Sexton and wife, Felicia and Sherman Sexton and wife, Brenda, all of Lexington; and sister, Doshia Self and husband, Jack, of Tennessee.
