Mary “Alene” Fletcher Harless, age 81, passed away Tuesday, January 7, at Forsyth Medical Center after a period of declining health.
A funeral service will be held 3:00 p.m. Saturday at Davidson Funeral Home Hickory Tree Chapel, conducted by Rev. David Bays.
The family will greet friends on Saturday 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. prior to the service.
Alene was born September 12, 1932 in Ashe County to Grady H. and Nannie B. Fletcher. On July 23, 1949 she married McDaniel Harless, who preceded her in death on November 21, 2013. Alene was a lifelong homemaker, and was known for abilities in the kitchen. After leaving Ashe County in 1964, she and Mac moved to Hillsville Va. where they resided for 42 years. In 2005 they moved to Winston-Salem to be near their son, where they became members of Griffith Baptist Church. In addition to Mac, she was preceded by her parents and brothers, James and Grady Fletcher.
She is survived by one daughter, Phyliss (Burdette) Hatter, one grandson Austin Hatter all of Louisville, Ky.; son Danny of Winston-Salem; brothers-in law and sisters-in-law Frankie and Martha Lane of Millers Creek NC, and Gwyn Ersol and Grace Harless of Jefferson NC and longtime family friends, Ruth Ann, Todd & Ashley Miller, and Herbert Snyder.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials be made to Griffith Baptist Church, 1987 Old Salisbury Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27127 or Gideons International, 1015 Eastchester Drive, High Point, NC 27262.
