Alfred Pleasant “Al” Hartman Jr., 74 of Marshall Byerly Rd., Lexington died Thursday, February 24, 2011, at Forsyth Medical Center.
The funeral will be Sunday at 4 p.m., February 27, 2011, at Friendship United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Patrick Snow officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Saturday, February 26, 2011, at Davidson Funeral Home and other times at the home.
Mr. Hartman was born February 15, 1937, in Forsyth County, to Dr. Alfred Pleasant Hartman and Virginia Byerly Hartman. He attended University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and was owner/operator of Friendship Farms. He was a member of NC Dairyman Association. He was also a member of Friendship United Methodist Church where he served as Chairman of the Trustees and the Cemetery Committees, was a member of the United Methodist Men, and taught the Men’s Bible Class.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Janie Mize Hartman. Surviving are one son, Greg Gobble and wife Jodie, of Lexington; two daughters, Andrea Stewart and husband Steve of Lexington, and Lisa Gobble Brown of Advance; five grandchildren, Lauren Gobble, Katie Brown, Kellie Brown, Wesley Stewart and Fallon Stewart; one sister, Peggy Hartman Bryant and husband James; four nephews, Slim Bryant and wife Jane, Joe Bryant and wife April, John Bryant and wife Ann, and Jerry Bryant and wife Jean; and special friends, Jack and Kaye Carter.
