Alice Thomason

May 16, 1930 — February 9, 2013

Mrs. Alice Hinkle Thomason, 82, of Bowers Road, died Saturday, February 9 at her home after an extended illness. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, February 12 at Second Reformed United Church of Christ, by the Rev. Dr. William Shrout. Burial will follow in the Lexington City Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the church parlor from 12:30 to 2:00 PM Tuesday prior to the service. Mrs. Thomason was born May 16, 1930 in Davidson County to Norfleet and Lottie Tarlton Hinkle. She was born and raised in Lexington and spent most of her life there. She was a graduate of Welcome High School and retired from Western Electric in 1980. She was a member of the Pioneer Club. She was a member of Second United Church of Christ since 1965. She was a member of the Friendship Class and taught Sunday School for over 30 years. In May 2005, the Friendship Class celebrated “Alice Thomason Day” and gifted pew candles to the church in her honor. She was active in the Women’s Guild and a leader in social and many other events. In 2008, she won the Pearle P. Leonard Award at her church. She was a lifelong member of the Democrat Party. For many years, she was an avid Bridge player and involved in local card clubs. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society. Alice loved people and never met a stranger. She loved her family and friends with all her heart. She will be missed dearly by many. Her sister, Helen H. Brinkley, preceded her in death. She is survived by her husband, Jim Thomason of the home; her sons, Eric Reich and wife, Pat, and Randy Thomason and wife, Susan, both of Lexington; her grandchildren, Ashley Thomason and husband, Shane Hutcheson, Jonathan Thomason and wife, Camey, and Robert Thomason and wife, Shannon, all of Lexington; her great grandchildren, Eli Thomason, Cooper Thomason, and Palmer Thomason, all of Lexington; her sister, Mary Foster of Lexington; her brother, Jimmy Hinkle and wife, Betty, of Lexington; her sister in law and close friend, Judy Rogers and husband Rudy, and her nieces, Tabitha Lambe, Lisa Smith, Debbie Berrier, and Mitzi Branch.
