Alvis “Moon” Wicker, 95, of Burler Street, died Thursday, June 9, 2011, at Hinkle Hospice House.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday, June 13, 2011, at Lexington Church of God with the Rev. Lonnie Daugherty officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, June 12, 2011, at Davidson Funeral Home and other times at the home.
Mr. Wicker was born January 21, 1916, in Pittsylvania County, Va., to William Larkin Wicker and Annie Cobb Wicker. He was a member of Lexington Church of God and retired foreman from North Carolina Department of Transportation. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son, Mitchell “Micky” Wicker; granddaughter, Michelle Wicker; brothers, Ben Wicker, Fred Wicker and Guy Wicker; and sister, Lillian Schoolfield.
Surviving are his wife, Wilhelmina “Virgie” Avery Wicker of the home; son, Richard “Dickie” Wicker and wife, Brenda, of Lexington; daughter, Janice Martin and husband, Lewis, of Lexington; grandchildren, Bret Martin, Josh Wicker, and Chantelle Lytle and husband, Steven, Richard Carter and wife, Nicole; seven great-grandchildren, Courtney Moss, Anthony Moss, Bruin Lytle, Jessica Wicker, Mariah Wicker, Issaac Wicker, and Vincent Carter; and brother, Joe Wicker of Gibsonville, Jack Wicker and Ben Wicker, both of New Port News, Va..
