America Jean Holston Lynn

May 25, 1931 — August 29, 2011

America Jean Holston Lynn born on May 25, 1931 to the late Raymond Alexander Holston, Sr. and Fannie Lee Smith Holston was received by her loving Saviour, Jesus Christ, on August 29, 2011. The funeral will be 3 p.m. Thursday, September 1, 2011, at Davidson Funeral Home Chapel with the eulogy given by Harvey Hinkle and other family members. The family will receive friends from 1: 30 to 3 p.m. prior to the service. Beloved by all who knew her, she was known for her sweet spirit and kind words to all. She made everyone feel welcome and although she had been legally blind since age 35, she touched countless people by faithfully sending hundreds of birthday, get well, and Christmas cards to family and friends throughout the US. Limited with her blindness, she viewed this as her ministry to people. Jean was a loving wife and mother who recently celebrated 60 years of marriage to the love of her life, Jack Darvin Lynn of the home. Jean leaves a legacy of five children, 10 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren. Her immediate family includes Martha Jane Lynn Gardner and husband, Stephen Craig Gardner, of Lexington, David Michael Lynn and wife, Bunnie Turner Lynn, of Welcome, Debra Lynn Hinkle and husband, Harvey Lee Hinkle, III, of Lewisville, Jacqueline Faye Lynn Power of Sherrills Ford, and Donna Marie Lynn Wright of Cheyenne, Wy. Jean’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren respectfully includes, Tammy Allred with children Kent Parsons, Justin and Brandy; Craig Gardner and wife, Rayna with children Alex, Ava and Ty; Chris Lynn and wife Kathy with children, Kennedy and Carter; Gabe Lynn and fiancé Heather; Jason Lynn; Heather Roberts and husband Jeff with child, Jordan; Lee Hinkle and wife Tia with children, Jessica, Luke and Cole; Brandon Shoaf and wife Kira with children, Lorelei and Silas; Missina Waitman and husband Mark, with their child Kaylee; Joey Gardner with wife Melissa with children Abby and Kayla. She was affectionately known as “Granny Jean” by all her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Jean loved Sprint Cup racing and of course her favorite driver was who else but Dale Earnhardt, Jr. Jean was a member of the Lexington Moose Lodge and spent many hours their participating in her favorite past time, playing bingo. We will all miss Granny Jean terribly, but will cherish our memories of her and hold them close and dear in our hearts. If you knew Jean then you understand why we loved her so. If you didn’t, we only wish you could have. She was one very special woman. In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her older brother, Raymond Alexander Holston, Jr. and is survived by her younger brother John Robert Holston. Jean was an avid supporter of Saint Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital and in lieu of flowers, her desire is for donations to be made to them, her favorite charity.
