Amos "Junior" W. Jacobs

Amos William “Junior” Jacobs, age 69 of Oakview Road, Linwood passed away Tuesday morning at Rowan Regional Medical Center in Salisbury, following a battle with cancer and lung disease for 17 months and seriously ill for one week. Funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, November 14, 2008, at Greer’s Chapel United Methodist Church, where he was a member, by the Rev. Lori Anne Bowen. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mr. Jacobs was born in Rowan County, December 14, 1938, to Amos William Jacobs, Sr. and Lucy Byerly Jacobs. He was a graduate of Churchland High School class of 1958. He spent his entire life in the well drilling business and was former co-owner of A.W. Jacobs Drilling. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister, Doris Mildred Jacobs. Surviving are one daughter, Connie Locklear and husband Jeff; four sons, Amos William “Jakie” Jacobs, Jody Thomas Jacobs and Bryan Ray Jacobs, all of Linwood, and Ronnie Hamrick of Rockwell; three grandchildren, Shawn Smith and wife, Angie, Josh Smith, all of Linwood, and Bryce Jacobs of Salisbury; three great-grandchildren, Corbin Smith of Linwood, Jared Hiatt and Bryson Swink; one sister, Pattie Davis and her husband, Jim, of Linwood; one brother, Paul Ray Jacobs and wife, Wanda, of Linwood; his special friend and caregiver Joyce Hartman of Salisbury; his little poodle, Candy; and nieces and nephews, Lisa Allen, Dana Jacobs, Marty Jacobs, Lynn Eggers, Scott Eggers, and Keith Eggers. The family will receive friends at Davidson Funeral Home from 6 until 8 pm Thursday night and at other times at the home of his daughter Connie Locklear, 1267 Haden Grove Church Road, Linwood. The family would like to thank the Rowan Regional Hospital of Salisbury, Critical Care Unit, 4th floor B. Tower nurses and staff, Dr. Wimmer and Dr. Black for their care and concerns shown to Junior and the family during his illness.
