Angelene Beall Calvert Pickett

Angelene Beall Calvert Pickett, 98, of Linwood passed away Tuesday, February 09, 2016, at Alston Brook. A graveside service will be held at a later date. The family will receive friends at their respective homes. Mrs. Pickett was born January 6, 1918, in Rowan County, to James Clifton Calvert and Caroline Beall Calvert. She enjoyed working as a draftsman at the Pentagon in Washington DC during World War II. After the war, she returned to Linwood, where she married her loving husband, Luther Allen Pickett and became a homemaker and caregiver to her mother. She worked for 18 years as the secretary at Linwood School. She was active in the Linwood community, volunteering at the community centers, Lion’s Club booth at the fair and other community events. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband; and a sister, Cornelia Calvert Graham. Surviving are a son, Cliff Pickett and wife Jan; a daughter, Eleanor Allen and husband William; granddaughter, Kris Fleenor-Brown and husband Todd; grandson, Joseph Pickett; and two great-grandchildren, Faith and James Brown. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
