Angeline Martin

October 10, 1938 — May 26, 2022

Ms. Ruth Angeline Martin (nee’ Reynolds), known to some as Ann or Angie or Angeline, died at the age of 83 years old on May 26, 2022, in Lexington, North Carolina. She died suddenly at her home that she shared with her son, Vernon, who needed her constant care.

LIFE

Ms. Martin was born October 10, 1938, in Mt Airy, North Carolina, to Vera Gunter Reynolds and Howard S. Reynolds. Her grandmother, Minnie Gunter, raised her. She graduated from high school in 1957. She married Vernon Dallas Worrell on March 3, 1958, in Mt Airy, North Carolina. During this union, her beloved two sons, Vernon W. and Scotty, were born.

Ms. Martin loved to learn and had a heart for caring for others. Other than the vital goal of being a mother and housewife, Angeline graduated from a business clerical school and worked in local offices in the Winston Salem area. In the late 1970s, the Worrell family settled in Lexington, NC suburbs. After raising her boys, she returned to working outside the home as a single woman. After retiring from the furniture factory, she went to school to become a certified nursing assistant. She became a CNA III and worked tirelessly at Lexington Rehab and other healthcare agencies for as long as she physically could do so. She married Billy John Martin on November 22, 2004, in Lexington, North Carolina.

Ms. Martin lived her whole life in North Carolina. Hospitality and southern charm were her calling card. It seems she did not meet a stranger. She enjoyed entertaining her family and friends, crocheting, knitting, flower gardening, singing, and taking care of her dogs and family. A little-known fact is that Angeline and her husband, Vernon, would occasionally sing at The Cow Palace and other local venues. Throughout her life, Angeline loved to worship with the body of Christ and sing in the choir at her local church.

FAMILY

Ms. Martin leaves her son, Vernon W. Worrell of Lexington, NC, and son, Scotty J. Worrell, and daughter-in-law, Marsha Worrell of Oldsmar, FL; her beloved cousin, Lillian A. Holder of Mt. Airy, NC, and long-time friends, Pat and Ralph Hollifield of Winston-Salem, NC. She also leaves a host of family and friends who grieve the loss of such a wonderful person.
