Annie Marie Cross Foster

May 6, 1932 — April 28, 2024

Annie “Marie” Cross Foster, 91, of Southmont, passed away Sunday, April 28, 2024, at her home, surrounded by family.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, May 3, 2024, at 3:00 PM, at Stoner’s Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, with Pastor John Bishop officiating.

Marie was born on May 6, 1932, in Davidson County, to the late Jesse Henry William Lovelace Cross Sr. and Julia Janetta Marie Tysinger Cross. She graduated from Southmont High School in 1951 where she played basketball and went on to work as a Knitter for Burlington Industries.

Marie loved cooking and working in her vegetable garden, especially with her squashes and tomatoes. She was also known for her talent as a seamstress, making clothes and outfits from patterns for her sisters, herself, and daughter. After marrying Irving Willis Foster, on September 23, 1950, he gifted her a beautiful Singer Sewing Machine that she used for many years and is still in working condition.

Her family and friends remember her as a beautiful person with a heart full of gold and was “too good for her own good”. Marie spent time with her family and friends and loved to do so at the beach, going as often as she could.

Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Irving; two sons, Willis Scott Foster, and Gary Dean Foster; brothers, Jesse Cross Jr, Frank Cross, Ronald Cross, Billy Cross, and Ted Cross.

Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Julie Whitley, of Lexington; sister, Kathy Cross; brother, John Cross; sister-in-law, Sue Cross; six grandchildren, ten great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and much-loved fur baby, Riley.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Davidson County, 200 Hospice Way Lexington, NC 27292.
