Ardinus “Nick” Watkins , age 83, of Turner Road, passed away Saturday morning July 7, 2012 at Forsyth Medical Center. A funeral service will be held 4 p.m. Tuesday July 10, 2012 at Pilgrim Reformed Church where he was a member conducted by Rev. Jamie Kent. Burial with firefighter honors will follow in Pilgrim Reformed Cemetery.
The family will see friends 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday July 9, 2012 at Davidson Funeral Home Lexington chapel, and other times at the home of his daughter, 460 Old Hwy 29, Lexington.
Ardinus was born in Davidson County on May 25, 1929 to Walter and Augusta Burkhart Watkins
He was a retired field director for Proctor & Schwartz, a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and a volunteer with the North Lexington Triangle Fire Department serving since 1959. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Rose Ellen Watkins.
Surviving are: his wife of 64 years Betsy “Sunny” Crouse Watkins of the home; daughter, Sharon Clark and husband Randy of Lexington; grandson Nicholas Sledge and wife Kennie of Lexington and two great-granddaughters Kelcie and Courtney whom Nick affectionately called “Peewee “and “Barney”; brother Ralph Watkins of Lexington and two sisters, Pansy Fritts and Charlean Morris and husband Joe all of Lexington.
