Arthur James Mcgown

July 18, 1931 — September 22, 2014

Arthur James McGown age 83 of Lexington passed away Monday, September 22, 2014 at Grayson Creek of Welcome. A funeral service will be held 11:00 am Saturday, September 27, 2014 at Oak Forest United Methodist Church with Pastor Darren Alexander officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Arthur was born July 18, 1931 in Nassau County NY to Ellery Percy McGown and Beatrice Caroline Halverson McGown. Arthur married the love of his life Joan and they were married for 62 years. They both enjoyed dancing, family games and attending church. He was a member of Oak Forest United Methodist Church and taught Sunday School and volunteered with “ meals on wheels.” He never met a stranger and will be missed by all. He was retired from Wellington Hall Furniture Company. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Joan Thelma Dorer McGown, brother, Charles McDonough. Surviving are his daughter, Bonnie Joan McGown Torres of Ringwood, NJ, son, Jim McGown (Rita) of Winston Salem, brother, Edward McGown ( Stella) of Lake Placid, FL, sister, Ruth Bauerschmidt of Linden, NJ, grandchildren, Frank Torres III (Jennifer), Julie Janiak (Kevin), Michael McGown, Mary Truell (Steven), great grandchildren, Amanda Torres, Cheyenne Torres, Cody Janiak, Logan Janiak, Eva Truell, Ethan Truell and Blake Arthur Janiak. The family would like memorials sent to: Hospice & Palliative care Centers Of Forsyth County, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston Salem, NC 27103.
