T. Austin Frye, 86, of Country Club Drive, died unexpectedly after a recent illness on July 7, 2011.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday, July 11, 2011, at First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Ray Howell 3rd and Rev. Tommy Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church fellowship hall and other times at the home.
Mr. Frye was born December 28, 1924, in Lexington, the son of Lewis Thurman and Lora Kirkman Frye. He was a graduate from Lexington High School and attended NC State University and Northwestern University. He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Hoggat Bay, an aircraft carrier, stationed in the South Pacific, as a communications specialist. He was a member of the First Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, and on various committees. Mr. Frye was a devoted member of the Lexington Kiwanis Club and worked diligently over the years to support the local Kiddie Camp. Mr. Frye was a retired Financial Services salesman and a member of American Legion Post 8. He was best known for his witty sense of humor and his love for his wife and family. His polite manners always prevailed even when faced with great difficulties. He was known by all as a man of high moral character in every facet of his life. He will be dearly missed by all.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son, Ted Frye; brothers, James, Willis, and L.T. Frye; and sisters, Katherine Chester and Patricia Potts.
Surviving are his wife, Kathryn Frye of the home; daughter, Carol Stephens of Lexington; grandsons, Brandon, David, Bradley, and Jeremy Powell; granddaughter, Deborah Snider and husband, John; great-grandson, Charlie Snider; sisters-in-law, Jane Swing and husband, Don, and Doris Frye; and numerous nieces and nephews.
