Barbara Deal Chesson

Having run well the race set before her, Mrs. Barbara Joan Deal Chesson, 87, of Lexington, NC entered into eternal glory on September 7, 2025. Barbara was born in Kannapolis, NC on February 22, 1938, to Mr. Ray Gilbert and Mrs. Georgia Harrington Deal. After graduating from A.L. Brown High School in 1956, Barbara graduated from nursing school and became a North Carolina Registered Nurse in 1959. Barbara retired from Lexington Memorial Hospital after a nursing career spanning over 30 years.

Barbara met her husband, William H. “Buddy” Chesson (Oak Ridge Military Academy, and Louisburg College), and they married on April 25, 1960. Barbara and Buddy were gifted with four treasured children, and their life was marked by working together to raise and enjoy their family, a beautiful home and a lifetime of memories with their family and friends.

Barbara impacted many lives with her devotion as a caring nurse to thousands of patients, by her strong faith, and by her keen and challenging intellect that inspired courage and strength of character. She remains cherished by her husband, their four children and their families for her life-long and unfailing devotion. She is survived by her husband, Buddy Chesson of Lexington, their children: Rebecca Chesson of Lexington, Chris and Dale-Manning Chesson of Lexington; Richard and Patricia Chesson of Lexington; and Cynthia (Chesson) and Charles T. Young III of Clemmons. Also surviving are grandchildren, April Chesson, Johnathan Chesson, Sarah Cranford. Leah Peay, William Chesson Jr., Battle Chesson, and Charles T. Young IV, as well as 17 great grandchildren, Bethany, Joseph, Shelby, Katelyn, Ethan, Anna, Titus, Zachery, Camryn, Barrett, Melody, Abraham, Greyson, Gracie-Mae, Greylee-Rae, Asher, and Lydia, and 2 great-great Grandchildren; Cooper and Gabriel.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Ray G. Deal and Georgia H. Deal of Kannapolis; her five siblings, Glenn Deal of Faith, NC, Claudine Artzof Faith, NC, Marvin Deal of Welcome, NC, Gary Deal of Los Angeles, CA, and Martha Barrineau of Kannapolis, NC, and a beloved grandson Stephen Fowler of Mooresville, NC.

The family will meet with friends at 1:00 pm prior to a funeral service to be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, September 11, at Davidson Funeral Home in Lexington, NC, followed by a brief graveside interment at Forest Hill Memorial Park, 1307 Old Hwy-64 West in Lexington. Flowers are graciously appreciated, or memorial gifts may be given to a charity of choice. The family will also receive friends at other times at Buddy & Barbara’s home.
