Barbara "Susan" Fritts, age 74, of Lexington, passed away peacefully on July 16, 2025, at Lexington Medical Center.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 4 pm on Sunday, July 20, 2025, at Grace Alliance Church with visitation one hour prior. She was a dedicated member of Grace, where she served as pianist, choir director, and as a teacher in the ladies’ and children’s ministries.
Born on May 12, 1951, in Davidson County, Susan was the daughter of the late George Clayton Fritts and Willa Mae Burkhart Fritts. A 1969 graduate of Central Davidson High School, she went on to earn a bachelor’s in music performance from Toccoa Falls College and later received her master’s in education from UNC-Greensboro.
Susan dedicated much of her life to education, inspiring generations of students with her passion for learning and music. She taught for 28 years at Sheets Memorial Christian School in Lexington and spent an additional eight years shaping young minds at Mt. Ulla Elementary School in Rowan County. A gifted musician, she also shared her love of music through piano instruction.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Jeff Fritts, and her brother-in-law, Johnny Kepley.
Susan is survived by her sister and best friend, Kathy Kepley; beloved nephews Nathan Kepley (Karen), Zach Kepley (Michelle), and Jestin Fritts (Kristin); cherished nieces Jessica Fritts McCarl (Matthew) and Kimberly Gordon (Mike); and treasured great-nieces and nephews Silas, Riley, Tyler, and Brody Kepley, Sumaya McCarl, Piper and Blair Fritts, Joshua Hayes, and Christopher and Justin Hebert.
Susan will be remembered for her deep faith, her gentle spirit, and the countless lives she touched through her teaching and music. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
