Barbara Jean Martin Tate, 72, of S. Main Street, Graham, died Thursday, September 13, 2012, at Hinkle Hospice House.
A memorial service will be 3 p.m. Sunday, September 16, 2012, at Near Calvary Freewill Baptist Church, with the Rev. Jeff Walser officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, September 15, 2012, at Davidson Funeral Home and to honor Barbara Tate and Marvin Hewett other times the family will be at the home of Bill Tate, 121 Lee Smith Road, Lexington.
Mrs. Tate was born August 10, 1940, in Davidson County, to Alex Martin and Wilma Goins Martin. She was a waitress at Waffle House and attended Near Calvary Freewill Baptist Church. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a daughter, Veronica Tate Johnson.
Surviving are her loving companion of 24 years, Marvin Hewett, of the home; sons, Thomas Daniel Tate of Lexington, and Richard Dean Tate of Wilson; daughter, Susan Tate Johnson of Lexington; adopted daughter/granddaughter, Barbara K. Lankford of Lexington; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; brothers, James Martin and wife Lucille of Arkansas, John Martin and wife Zonnie of SouthCarolina, Horace Martin and wife Kathy of Trinity, and Ronald Martin of Lexington; sisters, Frances Palmer, Betty Link and husband David, Nancy Little and husband Bill, all of Lexington; and sisters-in-law, Mrs. Junior L. Martin of Lexington, and Mrs. Ray T. Martin of Louisiana
