Barry “BT, Bluegrass” Dale Thomas, 52, of High Rock Lake, passed from this life to a better one December 31, 2009, after a very brave battle with cancer.
A funeral will be 1 p.m. Monday, January 4, 2010, at Finch and Finch Funeral Home in Altavista, Va.
BT was born July 8, 1957, in Lynchburg, Va., to Clement Irwin Thomas and Betty Walthall Thomas. Barry was a dedicated employee of Coca-Cola Consolidated for 29 years. In addition to some of the most caring and thoughtful co-workers, neighbors, family and friends a man could ask for, BT is survived by three awesome children, Tonya Moorefield and her husband, Jason, of Lynchburg, Va, Sarah Thomas of Lexington, and Alex Thomas of the home; one very precious grandson, Owen Gibson; two brothers, Gary Thomas and wife, Amber, of McCleansville, and Kelly Thomas of Port Charlotte, Fl.; two sisters, Kim Madsen and husband, Bent, and Wendy Gilliatt and her husband, Scott, of Lexington, NC; as well as numerous nephews and nieces who he would likely say were ugly, their breath stunk, and their mama’s dressed them funny, but he loved them dearly, each and everyone anyway. BT greatly valued time spent with friends and family and with his passing, many will surely say they have lost their best friend.
The family invites friends and family to join them from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, January 2, 2010, at Davidson Funeral home.
A private interment will be in the new Thomas family cemetery in Virginia, because if he wanted our opinion he would have given it to us.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Hinkle Hospice House, 200 Hospice Way, Lexington, NC 27292.
Following the service Monday the family will receive friends at the home of Eddie and Ellen Rice of Rocky Ridge Road, Altavista, Va.
