Basil Owens

Basil Leroy Owens, 93, of East Holly Grove Road, died Friday, Dec. 19, 2008, at Lexington Memorial Hospital after several years of declining health. A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Holly Grove Lutheran Church Cemetery by the Rev. John Mocko. Mr. Owens was born Sept. 27, 1916, in Denton County, Texas, to William Andrew Jackson Owens and Ada Lee McKinney Owens. He was retired from the U.S. Navy after 23 years of service. He was a member of the VFW Post 3074, American Legion Post 8 and of the Fleet Reserve. He was preceded in death by a brother, Orville Owens, and two sisters, Margaret Montgomery and Joy McEleew. Surviving are his wife, Caroline Curry Owens of the home; a brother, Dwight Owens of Fort Worth, Texas; and a sister, Doris Skinner of Sherman, Texas. There will not be a formal visitation.
