Baxter Lafayette Burkhart, Sr., 89, of Glenwood Drive, died Thursday, June 09, 2016, at Kiser Hospice House of Salisbury. A graveside service with military honors by Davidson County Honor Guard will be 1 p.m. Monday, June 13, at Forest Hill Memorial Park with Rev. Jim Luck officiating. Burial will follow. The family will receive friends from 11:30 to 12:30 at Davidson Funeral Home. Mr. Burkhart was born April 30, 1927, in Davidson County, to Samuel Lindsey Burkhart and Mary Swing Burkhart. He was a manager for 43 years at Burlington Industries and was later employed at Stanley Furniture prior to his retirement. He was a member of Second Reformed United Church of Christ. Mr. Burkhart served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Richardson Burkhart; a son, Howard Wayne Burkhart; brother, Kenneth Burkhart; and sisters, Lois Morgan and Jewell Burkhart.. Surviving are his son, Baxter “Chip” Lafayette Burkhart Jr. and wife Linda of Salisbury; and grandsons, Christopher Burkhart of Lexington and Bryan Burkhart of Salisbury. Memorials may be made to a charity of the Donor’s choice.
