Beauford Dean Kines

September 16, 1945 — May 27, 2025

Beauford Dean Kines, 79, of Lexington, NC, passed away peacefully on May 27, 2025, at Hinkle Hospice House in Lexington holding the hand of his loving wife of 53 years, Teresa Cecil Kines. Beauford was born on September 16, 1945, the youngest child of the late Lester Cleveland Kines and the late Troy Burkhart Kines.

Beauford proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam war and was a life-long member of 2nd United Church of Christ where he served on the Consistory, both of which speak to his life-long dedication to serving others before himself.  He was often the first call for any friend in need, especially if something needed repairing as there wasn’t much his hands could not do.  His dedication to the community culminated in 37 years of ownership of the Cube Restaurant, located at Davidson-Davie Community College where he served countless students and staff, often with homemade biscuits, the very best pimento cheese and a genuine smile or hug whenever needed.  Even during the long days of running the restaurant, he also took care of the family farm, located in Spencer, NC.  The farm, the connection to his own father and working the land was always a true passion, and he took pride in continuing to bale hay and raise cattle until recently as his health declined.

While he held many roles throughout his life, that of “Dad” and “Pops” were undoubtedly his proudest.  Being a hands-on, involved father and coach throughout their childhood brought him immense joy and leaves his sons Christopher Dean Kines (Desiree) and John Anothony Kines (Jodi) with many cherished memories of and gratitude for their dad.  But of all the titles he held, that of “Pops” was clearly the one that brought him the most joy.  He took immense pride in his four grandchildren: Greyson (19), Parker (18), Graham (18) and Piper (9) step granddaughter, Shae Villanueva and loved nothing more than watching them pursue the sports and interests they love - not to mention beating them at a game of mini golf at the beach.  Without a doubt, lessons learned driving tractors, mowing fields, bailing hay and even playing corn hole and bocce on the beach will allow his memory to live on in those that cherished him most.

In addition to his adoring wife, children and grandchildren, he is also survived by his sister, Nancy Conrad, brother-in-law, David Cecil (Frankie) and nephews Cecil Conrad (Daragh) and Michael Conrad,:Matthew Cecil (Jody) and Morgan Hardin, all of whom loved him dearly and always appreciated his willingness to do any and everything he could to help them.  In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Larry Kines, brother-in-law, Ralph "Sonny" Conrad, brother-in-law, Timothy Cecil.

Above all, Beauford will be remembered for his genuine kindness, caring spirit, bright smile and willingness to help anyone in need.  He was a true example of living God’s love out loud as he was always available to others on a moment’s notice, offering his time, talents and any tools he had that could help.  As he slowed in the past few years, he found so much joy going booth to booth chatting with and encouraging his friends at the Barbecue Center; our family is so grateful for his breakfast friends that often went out of their way to make sure he could join as long as he was able and later simply stopped by for a much-appreciated visit.

A memorial service to honor his life will be held 1:00 PM Thursday, June 5, 2025 in the Davidson Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel with Rev. Samuel P. Warner officiating. Visitation will be held from 11:30 AM until 1:00 PM prior to the service. Inurnment will follow at 2:30 PM at Salsibury National Cemetery with military honors by Davidson County Honor Guard and the United States Marine Corp.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Hospice of Davidson County, 200 Hospice Way, Lexington, NC 27292 or to Davidson-Davie County Community College, Lexington, NC 27292 in gratitude for their comfort and care during his final days.  In addition, we would like to express our appreciation to the Holly Grove Fire Department for always responding and being there as needed.

Above all else, the family asks that you honor Beauford’s memory by simply looking for ways to help your neighbor, just as he did so naturally every single day of his life.
