Mr. Benjamin Gibbs “Beno” Philpott, 60, died Wednesday, June 26, 2013 at the Hinkle Hospice House. A memorial service was held at 11:00 AM Friday, June 28 at Grace Episcopal Church, by the Revs. Dr. Tom King and Bonnie Duckworth. The family will receive friends following the service in the Church Undercroft. Mr. Philpott was born June 13, 1953 in Davidson County to James Alvin Philpott, Sr. and Helen Gibbs Philpott. He was a 1971 graduate of Lexington High School, a 1975 graduate of Washington and Lee University and a 1978 graduate of the Washington and Lee School of Law. He served as Editor of the Washington and Lee Law Review and was a member of Phi Kappa Sigma. A retired attorney, Mr. Philpott was a member of the Davidson County Bar Association, a former member of Lexington Kiwanis Club and former President of the Davidson County Museum of Art. He was a member of Grace Episcopal Church, where he served as a Junior Warden of the Vestry and volunteered in many other capacities in the church and community. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the Philpott Foundation and the High Point Furniture Library. He was renowned for his singular golf swing. He is survived by his wife, Deirdre Gordon Philpott of the home; his son, Harry Westall Philpott of Lexington; his brother, James Alvin Philpott, Jr. and wife, Judy, of Lexington, KY; his sister, Martha Philpott King and husband, Tracy, of Durham; and many nieces, nephews, family and friends who loved him dearly. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Davidson County Library, 602 S. Main Street, Lexington NC 27292, Grace Episcopal Church Youth Programs, 419 S. Main Street, Lexington NC 27292, Cancer Center of Lexington, P O Box 1817, Lexington NC 27293 or to Hospice of Davidson County, 200 Hospice Way, Lexington NC 27292.
