Benny Joe Koontz

HEADING NAME:  Benny Koontz   Benny Joe Koontz, 66, of Arnold Road, died Monday, August 4, 2008 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, August 8, 2008, at Beulah United Church of Christ, where he was a member, by the Rev. Benn Fleming. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mr. Koontz was born November 14, 1941, in Davidson County to Roy Lee Koontz and Lillie Reid Koontz. He was a graduate of North Davidson High School; retired from Duracell after 44 years of service; and a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose in Salisbury. He is survived by his wife, Judy Wall Koontz of the home, his daughter, Lucinda Burchett and husband, Kenneth, of Thomasville; stepson, Jason Lee of Fairhope, Ala.; grandchildren, Jonathan and Michael Burchett, both of Thomasville;  step-grandson, Henry Lee of Fairhope, Ala.; brother, R. Mike Koontz and wife, Shirley Smith Koontz, of Lenoir; niece, Marla Younce and husband, Lennie, of Lenoir; a great-nephew, Mikeal Younce of Lenoir; also survived by his cat, “Dumpie”. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday in the church fellowship hall and other times at the home.
