Lexington

Bentley William Leonard, 61, of Davidson County, passed away on Monday, April 13, 2026.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Bentley was born November 19, 1964, in Davidson County, to Brenda Smith Leonard and the late Paul William Leonard.

Bentley will be remembered for his sharp mind, deep curiosity, and the quiet passions that brought him joy throughout his life. He had a strong interest in firearms and took pride in studying gunsmithing, while his love of history led him to explore even the most obscure corners of the past, once immersing himself in a collection of early Quaker newsletters.

An avid reader, Bentley could often be found with a book in hand, especially enjoying science fiction, sometimes finishing several in a single week. In earlier years, he found excitement in paintball and skeet shooting, a pastime that played a part in the story of how he met his beloved wife, Jeannie.

Gifted with an exceptional memory, he had a remarkable ability to recall numbers and historical details with ease. In more recent years, he enjoyed playing computer games, particularly World of Warcraft, where he connected with people from around the world.

He also cherished time spent with his wife, whether camping, visiting the beach in the quiet of winter, or heading to the mountains in any season. Bentley dedicated many years of his working life to Thomas Built Buses, and he will be remembered for his intelligence, his passions, and the meaningful connections he made along the way.

He is preceded in death by his father.

He is survived by wife of 32 years, Jeannie Leonard; mother, Brenda Leonard; brother Branson Leonard; and fur babies Peanut and Bella, all of Lexington.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Spots and Stripes Forever.
