Bernice Evelyn Pickett Rowe, 92, loving mother, grandmother and faithful friend, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2006.
Bernice was born March 31, 1913, in Rocky Mount, Va. She later moved to Lexington before settling in Winston-Salem. Bernice worked for Hanes Hosiery, retiring after 35 years. She never met a stranger, and her life was a blessing to others as she blanketed all who knew her with a warm smile, love and faithful Christian testimony. Bernice was preceded in death by her husband, L.C. Rowe, in 1979; a brother, Jack Pickett; and a sister, Tessie Coppley.
She leaves behind her loving son, Donald Lee Rowe, and daughter, Hilda Rowe Widener; three grandchildren, Terry Lee Widener, Ronald Lee Rowe and Donna Rowe Goodman; five great-grandchildren, Jonathon Douglas Widener, Sherri Widener Routh, Brett Neil Goodman, Caitlin Rowe Goodman and Jennifer Maria Rowe; and a great-great-grandchild, Savannah Routh, all being richly blessed by her gracious spirit and unconditional love. She is also survived by her brother, James Pickett.
The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, March 3, at Davidson Funeral Home-Hickory Tree Chapel, with Dr. Billy Martin officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour before the service.
