Bernie Hammond Everett Motley

Bernie Hammond Everett Motley was born to John Everett Motley and Katherine Bugher Motley on January 26, 1949.  He is predeceased by his stepfather, Sidney Rowe, sister, Karen R. Coalson, and grandfather Bernie Bughar. Grandparents, Percy Hammond Rowe, and Martha Mae Mathis Rowe.  He is survived by his wife, Dorotha M. Motley, mother, Katherine B. Jolly, sisters, Sharon R. McCullough (Mark), Susie R. Queen, Martha R. Clarke (Keith), and brother Keith Rowe.  Nephews, Chris Smith (Crystal) Chad Smith, Josh Coalson (Karen), Brian Clarke (Julie), Aaron Clarke (Jessica).  Nieces, Angela S. Gosey (Rodney), and Carrie C. Skyes (Richard).  Great-nieces, Aubrey Gosey, Summer Smith, Jada Thomas, Faith Smith, Great-nephews, Storm Smith (Kenzie), Juston Smith, Cameron Smith, Dylan Gosey, Sam Coalson, Charlie Clarke, Weston, and Wiley Smith.  Brothers-in-law, Les Meadows, and Ronnie Meadows (Dixie).  Nephews, Grant Meadows (Jessica), Bryan Meadows (Rachel), and Robert Meadows. Great-nieces, Vella, Sylvia, and Alexandra Meadows, and Great-nephews, Jaxton Meadows, and Cade Meadows.

He graduated from North Forsyth High School and worked for Bahnson in Winston-Salem, Charles Biesecker, and Steve Burkhart Construction.  He later became a welder at Asco in Welcome.  Bernie was a lifetime member of the Goldwing Road Riders Association and served as District Newsletter Editor for 3 years.  Bernie proudly served in the Navy on the Forrestal Aircraft Carrier.  He was a member of Victory Baptist Church and proudly served a short time as a deacon.

Visitation will be on June 15, 2023, from 6:30 to 8:30 pm with the memorial service at 12:00 noon on June 16, 2023, at Davidson Funeral Home on Hickory Tree Road with burial to follow at Parklawn Memorial Gardens with Military rites.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Bernie’s memory to Victory Baptist Church in the care of JoAnn Yokley at PO Box 3105, Thomasville, North Carolina 27361.

The staff at Davidson Funeral Home Hickory Tree Chapel will be serving the family.
