Bertie Mae Lanier Foster

February 26, 1930 — January 28, 2018

Bertie Mae Lanier Foster, age 87, a resident of Pine Ridge Nursing Home, formerly of Highway 150, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 28, 2018 at Hinkle Hospice House in Lexington.   Services will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at Reeds United Methodist Church with Dr. Jim Martin and son, Kenny Foster officiating.  Burial will follow at the church cemetery.  Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 pm Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at Davidson Funeral Home in Lexington.   Bertie was born on February 26, 1930 in Davie County, NC to the late Donald Lafayette Lanier and Ella Mae Lloyd Lanier.  She was a graduate of Reeds High School where she was an All-State basketball player.  Bertie was a retired imprinting supervisor for Hanes Hosiery where she worked for 35 years.  She was a member of Reeds United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women’s group, and a life-long Sunday School teacher.  Bertie was preceded in death by her loving husband of 66 years, Bruce Lafayette Foster; a son, Rev. Gary Foster; and 9 brothers and sisters.   She is survived by a son, Kenny Foster (Connie) of Clemmons; daughter-in-law, Penny Foster, of Greensboro; a sister, Joyce Jones (Gene), of Advance; a special niece, Donna Livengood, of Advance; 2 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; and a special roommate at Pine Ridge Nursing Home, Ms. Willie Stone.   In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Davidson County, 200 Hospice Way, Lexington, NC 27292; Reeds United Methodist Church, 4731 W. Old Hwy 64, Lexington, NC 27295; or West Davidson Food Pantry, 4600 W. Old US Hwy 64, Lexington, NC 27295.
