Bessie Mae Cox Bridges Blackwell

September 23, 1926 — March 4, 2012

Bessie Mae Cox Bridges Blackwell, age 85, of Cedar Lane Drive, Lexington passed away Sunday morning at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.  Memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday, March 6, 2012 at Center Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Brian Alexander and Rev. Lamar Moore officiating. Burial will be at a later date.   The family will receive friends at the church following the service.   Bessie was born in Davidson County, September 23, 1926 to Charles Issac Cox and Carrie Hedrick Cox. She was a retired employee of Davidson Federal and a member of Center Hill Baptist Church.  She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Edgar E. Bridges and second husband, Charles Walter Blackwell; brothers, Charles I. Cox and Tommy Cox; sister, Blanche Lashley.   Surviving are; daughters, Shirley Kennedy and husband Monroe of Lexington, Mary Bombardier and husband Flip of fort Mill, SC; sons, Tommy Bridges of Florida, Eddie Bridges of Atlanta, GA; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; step-daughter, Judy Gibson and husband Ricky of Lexington; step-son, Robert (Bobby) Blackwell and wife Beth of Clemmons; five sisters, Myrtle Elmore of Greensboro, Ollie Gilliland and husband Doyle of Florida, Margaret Leonard and husband Robert, Joyce Coppley and husband Jim all of Lexington and Donna Queen of Salisbury.   In lieu of flowers memorials should be directed to Center Hill Baptist Church, 3759 NC Highway 8, Lexington, NC  27292 or Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, 238 Fort Mill Highway, Fort Mill SC 29707.     Online condolences may be made at www.davidsonfuneralhome.net
