Bessie Surratt Young

Bessie Surratt Young, 78, of Shiptontown Road, died Wednesday, March 24, 2010, at Hinkle Hospice House. The funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday, March 27, 2010, at Becks Lutheran Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Ray Sipe, Ruth Ann Sipe and Dr. Ray Howell, 3rd officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 26, 2010, at Davidson Funeral Home. Mrs. Young was born January 23, 1932, in Davidson County, to Walter Bunch “W.B.” Surratt and Gertrude Doby Surratt. She was a graduate of Greensboro Women’s College and was partner with her son David at the Salisbury Sewing Center until it closed in 2008.  She enjoyed sewing, quilting, sports and the company of her cat, Sabrina. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Eugene Young Sr.; a son, James Lee Young; brothers, Walter Surratt and Keith Surratt; and a sister, Gertrude Myers. Surviving are sons; Lawrence E. (Gene) Young, Jr. and wife Tonya, David Edward Young and wife Cindy, Steve Jeffery Young and wife, Lisa and a very special nephew as she viewed as her son, Jon W. Myers and wife, Eryn, all of Lexington; grandchildren, Jonathon Young and wife Nikki, Lauren Young, Tori Young, Tyler Young, a very special grand niece, Grace Myers; and great-grandchildren, Gavin Young and Greenlee Young. In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorials be directed to Hospice of Davidson County, 200 Hospice Way, Lexington, NC  27292
