Betty Lou Graham Bunce

Betty Lou Graham Bunce, of 414 Glenwood Avenue, Lexington, NC, passed away Saturday morning May 5, 2007 at Baptist Hospital in Nashville, TN. A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday at Coggins Memorial Baptist Church with Rev. David Shaffer, Dr. Ray Howell 3rd, Rev. Bill Sosebee and Rev. Robert McCrary officiating. Burial will follow in Lexington City Cemetery. Mrs. Bunce was born to Willie A. and Virginia Dare Graham on January 19, 1935 in Fayetteville, NC. She was a graduate of Stedman High School, was the first woman to graduate from Methodist University in Fayetteville receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree and later earned her Masters of Arts Degree from UNC-Greensboro. She taught school in Fayetteville, Stedman, Selma and Lexington, NC. Mrs. Bunce also served in many capacities within the churches her husband pastored in both North Carolina and Virginia. She touched the lives of many with her love, encouragement and inspiration. She will truly be missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Dr. Dearl L. Bunce; two sons, D. Linwood Bunce and wife Anita, and Graham A. Bunce and wife Lana; one daughter, Elizabeth F. Bunce and husband Bill Bates, all of Lexington; eleven grandchildren, Daryn Stylianopoulos and husband Spiro, Lin Bunce, Kendall Bunce, June Bunce, Adam Bunce, Brianna Douglas and husband Bruce, Russala Bunce, Austin Bunce, Olivia Bunce, Grayson Bates and Taylor Bates; three great grandchildren, Fayrah Ruth Stylianopoulos, Anna Claire Stylianopoulos and McKendrie Monroe Douglas. Also surviving are one sister, Frances G. Thorne of Fayetteville, a brother, David A Graham of Fayetteville and numerous in-laws, and nieces, nephews and friends. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 9:00 PM Tuesday at Davidson Funeral Home and at other times at the home at 414 Glenwood Avenue.
