Betty Curry Crowell

July 14, 1936 — October 9, 2020

Mrs. Betty Curry Crowell, 84, of Paddington Drive, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 9 at home surrounded by family.

A funeral service will be held at 11 am Wednesday, October 15 at Paul’s Chapel Church, by the Rev. Aaron Long.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Betty will lie in state from 2 to 5pm Tuesday at Davidson Funeral Home.  The family will receive friends at the church from 10 to 11 am Wednesday at the church prior to the funeral service and other times at the home on Paddington Drive, Lexington.

Betty was born July 14, 1936 to the late Homer Franklin Curry and Annie Phllips Curry and resided in Lexington her entire life.  She was married to Wayne Crowell, the love of her life for 39 years until his death on December 14, 1999.  Betty graduated from Lexington High School.  She was employed by Lexington Home Brands until 1985 and First Baptist Church Daycare until she retired.  She adored each little child she cared for and the affection followed her with many of her students keeping close contact with her over the years.

Betty never met a stranger and was a treasured friend.  She was deeply loved by so many.  Betty will be remembered for her kind and gentle spirit and for the many lives she touched over the years.  She recognized the positive qualities in people and put others needs before her own.  Her passion was truly helping other people and was dedicated to her family, being remembered for her generous and giving spirit.  Faith, Family, and Friends formed the essence of her life.  She leaves behind a legacy to be admired.

Betty was a devoted member of Paul’s Chapel Church and was active in many church committees.  She loved singing in the Choir.  She delivered Meals on Wheels for 20 years and was recently honored for her service.  Betty and her husband, Wayne, served many years with West Lexington Lions Club.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Crowell, her brothers, Jesse Roy Curry, Thomas Curry, and Don Curry; and her sisters, Mildred Sowers, Evelyn Gilliland, Lena Church, and Rachel Hobbs.

She leaves to cherish her memory her brother, Homer Curry (Linda), her sister, Geraldine Scott, and many nieces and nephews.  She was loved dearly and everything about her will be missed, but never forgotten.  We find comfort in many special memories.

The family would like to thank the entire staff of Hospice of Davidson County for the extraordinary care given to her during her illness.

In lieu of flowers, please honor Betty’s memory with donations made to Hospice of Davidson County, 200 Hospice Way, Lexington NC 27292 or to Paul’s Chapel Church, 2791 W. Center St Ext, Lexington NC 27295.
