Betty Briggs Disher

July 21, 1935 — April 20, 2024

Betty Jean Briggs Disher, 88, went to be with her heavenly Father on Saturday April 20th, 2024, at Cadence of Clemmons with loved ones by her side.

Mrs. Disher was born on July 21st, 1935, to Carl Anderson Briggs and Mary Hill Smith Briggs in Lexington, NC. She graduated from Lexington Senior High School in 1954 and received a Associate Business Degree from Ashemore Business College. She married Olin Charles Disher on May 10, 1958, in Lexington. She worked at Lexington State Bank and retired after 40 years of service. She started as a teller and worked her way to Assistant Vice President.

Betty was always the calm in any storm, and she exhibited strength in her gentleness. She was a devoted wife and caring mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a proud lifelong member of Becks Lutheran Church in Lexington where she was active as a Sunday school teacher, council member, treasurer, and women’s circle leader throughout her membership. She found comfort in reading her bible daily and after retirement, she enjoyed volunteering at Lexington Memorial Hospital and babysitting her grandchildren as often as possible. She cherished her church family and enjoyed receiving notes and letters from them in her later years.

She enjoyed multiple crafts especially crocheting and sewing, which she was taught by her mother and aunts and often helped them with quilting. She was an avid reader going to the library multiple times a week to get a new stack of books. She also loved traveling with her sisters and sisters-in-law. She had an amazing green thumb which helped her pass on beautiful plants from one generation to another. She always showed her love by sharing clippings with family members that were harvested from her mother’s plants so her entire family could all enjoy her violets and Christmas cacti. She was also known for cooking chicken and dumplings with her grandchildren and lovingly baking her famous chocolate pies for family events. When she was at Trinity Elms Independent Living Apartments, she loved spending time with her fellow lady residents working on puzzles, playing bingo and socializing.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years Olin Charles Disher, her parents and her sister Mary-Ann Rachels. She is survived by her brother Bobby Briggs (Judy) of Lexington and her sister Carlene Rierson of King; her daughter Lynn Widenhouse (Steve) of Clemmons, her son Martin Disher (Karol Lynn) of Georgia; her grandchildren Emily Rogers (Jeff) of Georgia, Ryan Widenhouse (Elodie) of New York, and Kelsey Gultekin (Oz) of Tobaccoville; her great-grandchildren Carson and Charlotte Rogers of Georgia. She was also blessed with loving sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews.

Thank you to Cadence of Clemmons’ staff for their kindness, loving care and friendship so freely given to our mother Betty.

The family will receive friends and loved ones from 6-8 PM on Friday April 26th, 2024, at Davidson Funeral Home in Lexington. A Celebration of Life service will be conducted at 2 PM on Saturday April 27th, 2024, at Becks Lutheran Church in Lexington. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Becks Lutheran Church at 441 Becks Church Road, Lexington, NC.
