Betty Fite

Betty Armstrong Fite, age 87 of West Fourth Ave., Lexington passed away Saturday morning at her home. A memorial service will be held 11:00 am Tuesday, June 24, 2008 at First United Methodist Church conducted by Dr. Jim Martin, and burial will follow at the Lexington City Cemetery. Mrs. Fite was born in New York, Genesee County September 1, 1920 to John Fenn Armstrong and Sarah Beatrice Smith Armstrong. She was a retired RN Supervisor with Lexington Memorial Hospital and was a veteran having served with the US Army, Army Nurse Corp., 19th General Hospital from 1942 thru 1945 having discharged as 1st Lieutenant. She was a member of First United Methodist Church. At her church she was involved with the Ladies Wesley Bible Class and the United Methodist Women, and a graduate of Rochester General Hospital, NY. She was preceded in death by her husband Howard “Doc” Winston Fite who died November 6, 1996, a brother Paul Armstrong and a sister Margaret Moreth. Surviving are: two sons; John Craig Fite of Lexington, Robert “Bob” Howard Fite and wife Meredith of Cornelius, NC, one daughter; Margaret Elizabeth McKinnon and husband David of Franklinville, NC, one brother; John Manford Armstrong and wife Ila of Elbridge, NY, six grandchildren; Sarah Fite Kornegay and husband Craig, Ben Fite, Megan McKinnon, Neal McKinnon, Blake Fite and wife Emily, Shelly Crouser and husband Jim, two step grandchildren; Philip Susdorf and Matthew Susdorf, two great grandchildren; Hailee Garren and Logan Crouser. The family will receive friends prior to service in the church fellowship hall. Memorial may be made to: First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 307, Lexington, NC 27293.
