Betty Black Peele Goodman, 76, of Williams Street, died Friday, May 15, 2009, at Alston Brook Nursing Home. The funeral will be 2:00 pm at Mt. Carmel Freewill Baptist Church, where she was a member for 39 years, with the Revs. Darrell Cartrette and Doug McGee officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mrs. Goodman was born May 10, 1933, in Davidson County, to Alfred Lloyd Black and Fannie Agnes Parrish Black. She was the church pianist for 38 years, former Sunday school teacher and very active in other areas of her church. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husbands, Robert Clinton Peele and Edward Willis Goodman; and a brother, Lloyd Thomas Black. Surviving are a son, Phillip Black and wife, Vicky, of Franklinville; daughter, Sherry Rouse of the home; and brother, Phillip Wayne Black and wife, Nina, of Hickory. The family will receive friends from6-8 pm Saturday at Davidson Funeral Home and other times at the home. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Rowan County, 512 Kulmac Road Suite 3, Salisbury NC 28144.
