Betty Hedrick

January 16, 1931 — March 23, 2024

Betty Trantham Hedrick passed away on Saturday, March 23, 2024 at her home in Southmont.  A memorial service will be held at a later date.

She was born at home in Cotton Grove on January 16, 1931 to H.C. (Bud) and Mamie Smith Trantham.

She was one of the oldest members of Macedonia United Methodist Church.  She attended Appalachian State and received a Commercial Business Certificate.  In the 1960’s she was a substitute teacher at Southmont Elementary.  From 1969 to 1980’s she was the main substitute teacher at Central Davidson Senior High.  She was also a former active member of the Democratic Women of Davidson County.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Ruby T. Feezor and Naomi T. Owen, and a brother Spurgeon Trantham.

She is survived by her husband of 73 years Jacob T. “Tommy” Hedrick, daughters Stephanie Potter (Bob) of Salisbury, Jeanie Buchanan (Dr. John) of Lexington, granddaughters Mary Buchanan of Miami, Florida, and Dr Helen Peters (Dr Jonathan) of Durham, and a special niece Jane Kearns of Southmont.

Memorials may be made to the Macedonia United Methodist Church Building Fund at PO Box 190 Southmont, NC 27351.
