Betty Mae Ward James

Betty Mae Ward James, 89 of Lexington passed away Saturday, August 16, 2019 at her home.

A funeral service will be held 2:00 pm Monday August 19, 2019 at Westside Baptist Church by Pastors Jason Koontz, Clyde Akers and David Ward. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:30 pm at the church prior to the service.

Betty was born on March 20, 1930 in Watauga County to Council Alford Ward and Millie Trivette Ward. She was a homemaker and a member of Westside Baptist Church.  She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clifton Odell James, who died in 2002; her sons, Ronnie James and Johnny James; her grandson, Phillip James, and her sisters; Bonnie Gilday,Celia Trivette, Lizzy Combs and Annie Ward. her brothers; Albert Ward and Grayson Ward.

Surviving are son, Gene James (Mickie) of Lexington; her daughters Ann Mabe (Lawrence) of Harmony NC; Jeanie Marie James Kelly ( Charles) of Salisbury, NC and Tammy Mae James Perkins, of Lexington; 11 grandchildren: 16 great-grandchildren, 9 great-great-grandchildren; and her sisters; Ruth Welch of Bristol, TN and Shirley Hayley of Lenoir.
