Betty Jean Shoaf

Betty Jean Burkhart Shoaf, 92, of Tyro went to be with her Lord and Savior at her home on May 15, 2023.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, May 19, 2023, at Sandy Creek Cemetery, Giles Road, Lexington conducted by Pastor Michael Shoaf. Seating will be available. The family will greet friends following the service.

Betty Jean was born in Davidson County on March 7, 1931, to Roy Hill Burkhart and Minnie Younts Burkhart. She was a member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Tyro, North Carolina. Mrs. Shoaf was a lifelong seamstress and retired from Edgewood Apparel. Her days of retirement were spent crafting, caring for her grandchildren, and helping her husband “Fuzzy” around the farm. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose memory will be cherished forevermore.

In addition to her parents, Betty Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Tommy Shoaf; an infant son, Bobby Lee; and nine siblings, Gladys Clodfelter, Clarence Burkhart, Franklin Burkhart, Raymond Burkhart, Paul Burkhart, Lloyd Burkhart, Ralph Burkhart, Joe Burkhart, and John Burkhart.

Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Barry Carter Shoaf (Betsy), Terry Kent Shoaf (Becky), and Kerry Brent Shoaf (Sherri); grandchildren, Drew Shoaf (Kelly), Linzy Shoaf, Luke Shoaf (Ali), Katie Shoaf, Liz Shoaf, and Jesse Shoaf; great-grandchildren, Hudson and Hadley Shoaf. She is also survived by many other family and friends along with caregivers, Peyton Lambert, Gayla McDaniel, and Debbie Walser.
