Betty Jo Farthing Hicks

April 7, 1939 — December 30, 2018

Betty Jo Farthing Hicks, 79, of Alston Brook, formerly of Sink Inn Road in Lexington, passed away on Sunday, December 30, 2018 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, January 4 at Davidson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Michael McDaniel officiating.  Burial will follow at Forest Hill Memorial Park.  Visitation with family and friends will be held from 12:30 to 1:30 pm prior to the service on Friday.

Ms. Hicks was born on April 7, 1939 in Watauga County to Jack Farthing and Mary Pearl Ward Farthing.  She was a member of Currytown Baptist Church and she enjoyed serving the Lord alongside her late husband, Rev. Donas Hicks.  Ms. Hicks was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Lawrence Farthing and sister, Gladys Sharpe.

Surviving are her daughter, Carolyn Hicks Leonard, son-in-law David, who she considered her son, both of Lexington; brother, Dewey Farthing (Linda) of Banner Elk; sisters, Mary Lois Hicks (David) of Vilas, Nellie Fish (Wayne) of Lexington, Carolyn Owens (James) of Lexington and Shirley Tester (Waldo) of Julian.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Mission Fund at Currytown Baptist Church, 7740 N. NC Hwy 150, Lexington, NC 27295.

The family would like to thank the staff of Alston Brook for the love and special care they gave Ms. Hicks.
