Betty Kay Grindstaff Smith entered eternal rest on December 18, 2023, while receiving hospice care at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston Salem, NC. She was born to Johnny Mack Grindstaff and Clarice Mabe in Winston-Salem on October 29, 1945.
Betty had a successful 20+ year career as a merchandiser, buyer, and division manager for Thalheimer’s Department Stores and later Belk Stores before moving to California and marrying the love of her life, Paul Andrew Smith. She was a cat lover, having many sweet fur babies in her lifetime, including her most recent companion, Miss Molly. Betty enjoyed creating art through her painting, sketching, and stone carvings. Along with her husband, Betty was an advocate for Native Americans and enjoyed visiting and learning about various Native American tribes.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Bobby Joe Grindstaff as well as her husband, and leaves behind dear family and friends who will miss her loving, generous nature, and quirky sense of humor.
Her cremated remains will be united with her husband at Saints Delight Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, 4655 Saints Delight Church Rd. Kernersville, NC, where a graveside service will be conducted on Friday, December 29, 2023, at 2 pm.
The family is very grateful for the wonderful care Betty received with hospice, and in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her honor to Trellis Supportive Care.
The staff at Davidson Funeral Home Hickory Tree Chapel is honored to be serving the Smith family during this difficult time.
