Betty Sue Leonard Younts, aged 94, passed away on Saturday, March 23, 2024, peacefully in her home where she lived happily for 71 years. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and adored by all that knew her.
Betty Sue was born on March 17, 1930 in the Arnold Road community to William Thomas Leonard and Gladys Mae Walser Leonard. After attending the Welcome-Davis Townsend basketball game at her high school, she met her future husband, Robert Bruce Younts, from the visiting crowd. They married on June 12, 1948 and later moved to Lexington to the home where they raised their 5 children.
Betty Sue was devoted to her family as they were to her, and she especially enjoyed hosting family and friends for birthdays, holidays and Sunday lunches for more than 7 decades. She was a voracious reader up until the very end, and she loved to sit in her favorite chair with a book and watch the birds at her window.
Betty Sue worked for Duracell for 27 years and retired in 1992. She was a member of Beck’s Reformed Church.
Betty Sue was preceded in death by her husband Bruce and her son, Leonard, his fiance, Karen Foster, her siblings Paul, W.A. and Bobby Leonard. She is survived by her sister, Barbara Ann Leonard Alley, children, Tommy Younts (Marty), Larry Younts(Sedley), Bonnie Baity (Rick), and Roger Younts (Wendy), her grandchildren, Hannah (Hunter) (son - Easton), Jonathan, Meredith (Maggie), Amanda (Sean), William, Trent(Carrie), Clark(Kristina) (son - Thomas), Cameron(Lindsay) (daughter- Bailey, son - Miles) and Craig (Holly)(sons - Marcus and Elijah),Emma, Claire and numerous nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held for family and friends at Beck’s Reformed Church on Tuesday March 26 at 10:00-11:00 AM with a graveside service to follow with Pastor Ray Howell officiating.
