Betty Lou Hedrick Smith, 81, of Bob Smith Drive, died July 25, 2013, at Hinkle Hospice House, following a two month illness.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday, July 28, 2013, at Mt. Tabor United Church of Christ, where she was a member, with the Rev. Darrell Sluder officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, July 27, 2013, at Davidson Funeral Home and other times at the home.
Mrs. Smith was born April 20, 1932, in Davidson County, to Thomas Wiley Hedrick and Annie Fritts Hedrick. She was an employee of the press room at Metal Bed Rail prior to her retirement. Mrs. Smith was a member of the Women’s Guild and the Sunday School Unity Class at her church; she was also a member of the Holly Grove Senior Citizen Group. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Olin Smith Jr.; brothers, Willis, Bob and Bill Hedrick; and a sister, Ruby Leota Flynn.
Surviving are sons, Scott Olin Smith of the home and Lewis Smith (Teresa) of Lexington; daughters, Donna Burkhart (Doug) of Tyro and Carolyn Cope (Charles) of Lexington; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and brothers, Colon Hedrick and Randall Hedrick, both of Lexington.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hinkle Hospice House, 200 Hospice Way, Lexington, NC 27292; or Mt. Tabor United Church of Christ, New Building Fund, 1002 East Holly Grove Road, Lexington, NC 27292.
