Betty Koontz Sowers

Elizabeth Koontz “Betty” Sowers, age 78, of Arnold Road, Lexington died Monday night (June 27, 2011) at Lexington Health Care. The memorial service will be held at 11:00 am Friday (July 1, 2011) at Davidson Funeral Home Chapel in Lexington, conducted by Dr. Lee S. Dukes, III. Betty was born in Lexington, October 28, 1932 to the late Charles Odell “Buck” Koontz and Edith Oakley Koontz. She was a graduate of Welcome High School and Catawba College and earned her Masters degree from UNC Greensboro. She worked in the Davidson County School System as a teacher and Media Specialist for 25 years, retiring in 1992. She was very interested in Davidson County history and genealogy; she was the co-editor of Homespun Magazine in Davidson County and wrote numerous articles on various historical topics. Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Max E. Sowers of the home; sons, Marty Sowers and wife Kay Hoover Sowers of Charlotte, and Gary Sowers and wife Kathy Pividal of Baton Rouge, LA; grandchildren, Kristine, Charlie and David Sowers, all of Charlotte; brother and sister in law,Carlyle and Lou Koontz of Hermitage, TN. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brother Jerry Koontz.
