As she ascended through the gates of Heaven, Betty Lou Spry went home to be with the Lord, Thursday, May 4, 2017. Betty will be laid to rest during a 4:00 pm Sunday May 14, 2017 graveside service at the church cemetery of Lakeview Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. at Davidson Funeral Home prior to the graveside service.Betty Lou was born February 8, 1935, to her loving parents, Willie Lexford and Mildred Katherine Hilton Phillips in Mooresville. Betty Lou was the only child. She found her soulmate and married Melvin Spry on September 30, 1952. They established their home in Linwood. Betty was blessed with four loving children. She was a devout Christian and attended Lakeview Baptist Church. For many years she enjoyed serving as the church secretary and Sunday school leader. She was employed at Siceloff’s Sewing Company, Manhattan Shirt Factory and lastly she was the lead cook at Hill Top Living Center, where she retired in 2002 after 28 years of service. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 55 years Melvin Spry; son, Gregory Steven Spry; and grandson, Michael Brian Spry. Betty is survived by her oldest son, Michael “Mikey” Spry (Nancy) of Linwood; two daughters, Diane Spry Hedrick (Steve) of Salisbury and Rhonda Spry Newsome of Linwood. Betty’s legacy includes six living grandchildren, Lori Roach (Darrin) of Lexington, Angela Childress (Brian), of Linwood, Erin Valley (Shane) of SalisburyGlynis Prevette (Brandon) of Lexington, Phillip Hedrick (Jamie) of Salisbury, and Cheryl Saulpaugh (Bobby) of Lexington. Betty’s blessings continued with eight great-grandchildren, Morgan Roach, Lucas Hedrick, Ashton Prevette, Caleb Prevette, Dylan Valley, Tyler Valley, Luke Prevette, and Cheyenne Saulpaugh. In lieu of flowers those wishing to make contributions may do so to Lakeview Baptist Church, 341 Lakeview Church Road, Linwood, NC 27299, and Davidson County Chapter of Meals on Wheels The family of Betty Spry would like to personally thank Dr. Victor Farrah and staff for their many years of care as well as Dr. Katie Twomley, Wake Forest Baptist Health/Cardiology.
