Betty Surratt

Betty Jean Coppley Surratt, 86, a resident of Lexington, passed away January 18, 2022 at Lexington Health Care. Betty was born on September 12, 1935 to the late Chelsie Lee and Bertha Cody Coppley. She worked for thirty plus years with Dixie Furniture in Lexington, then went on to retire from Davidson County Transportation. Betty was a very active person. She loved sports, was an A1 Basketball player while in school, and was a member of a bowling league well into her eighties. Betty was Miss Linwood, a member of the YMCA, and delivered Meals on Wheels. She was a member of Jersey Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, David Surratt; brothers, Austin Coppley and Lewis Coppley; and sisters, Elsie Starr, Carol Ann Kirkus, and Rachel Hamm.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, January 24, 2022 at Davidson Funeral Home Chapel in Lexington. Interment will follow the service in Jersey Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will greet friends beginning at 1:00 PM prior to the service and other times at the home of her daughter, Lisa; 203 Oakwood Drive, Lexington, NC 27292.

Betty is survived by her children, Lisa Woods (Evernee) of Lexington and Roger Thomason (Doris) of Lexington; sisters, Louise Lookabill, Jonie Myers (Roger) and Evelyne Swing (Bobby) all of Lexington; grandchildren, Jennifer Weaver (Robert), Billy Thomason (Amanda), Tracey Thomason, Derek Barker (Amy), and Nicole Cullison (Kevin); thirteen great-grandchildren; and special friends and neighbors, Charlie and Kelly Kingen.
