William “Bill” Louis Bingham Jr., age 75, of Roswell, Georgia, passed away on May 6, 2025, at Emory Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia.
Bill was born on June 28, 1949, in Lexington, North Carolina, to Evelyn Whittenton Bingham and Dr. William Louis Bingham. He attended Lexington Senior High School and later graduated from Western Carolina University with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. While at WCU, he was a proud member of the Kappa Alpha fraternity.
He faithfully served the furniture industry for over 46 years, working with United/Burlington Furniture Industries and Stanley Furniture Company as a Manufacturer’s Sales Representative. Bill was an astute, popular, and highly successful businessman, and a loyal friend to many. He especially treasured time spent with family and friends at Allatoona Yacht Club.
A man of deep Christian faith, Bill shared his joy for life with everyone who had the privilege to know him.
In September 2017, Bill received a double lung transplant at Duke Hospital in Durham, North Carolina. Though given a five-year life expectancy, his strength and courage extended that to eight years—time he used to embrace retirement and enjoy watching his beloved grandsons, William (11) and Mason (8), grow. They lovingly called him “Papa.”
Bill was preceded in death by the love of his life, Beverly Easter Bingham, and his parents, Evelyn and Dr. William L. Bingham. He is survived by his daughter, Gray Bingham-Mattus, and her husband, Aaron; his sister, Anne Bingham Philpott (Ted); his brothers, James Dewey Bingham (Meri) and Arthur Fletcher Bingham (Dawn); and many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A memorial service to celebrate Bill’s life will be held on Thursday, May 15, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Roswell United Methodist Church, 814 Mimosa Blvd., Roswell, GA. A reception will follow at the church.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Lexington City Cemetery, Salem Drive, Lexington, NC. A reception will follow at First Baptist Church, 201 West Third Avenue, Lexington, NC.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Duke Health – Lung Transplant Director’s Fund.
