Bill Varner

On Friday, December 13, 2019 Willie Lee “Bill” Varner went home to be with the Lord. He passed away at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston Salem, NC, after battling cancer for many years.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, December 18, 2019 at 11:00 am at the Salisbury National Cemetery, 501 Statesville Boulevard, Salisbury, NC with the Rev Dr. Beverly Fulbright and Rev. Jimmy Greene officiating. Military honors will be rendered in honor of Mr. Varner’s dedication to his country in the US Army.

There will be no formal visitation.

Bill was born on January 21, 1934 in Lexington, NC to Wade Lee Varner, Sr. and Willie Grace Garrison Varner. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Annie Mae Brooks, Mary Thomason, Libby Varner and Phyllis Varner; and a brother, Freddie Varner.

He was a former employee of Piedmont Airlines, having been an airplane mechanic and later worked for Matthews Amusement as an electronics technician. He was the owner/operator of Bill Varner Electronic Repair Service and Satellite Sales. Bill was a veteran of the United States Army where he served from April of 1951 until his honorable discharge in February 1963.

Surviving are a daughter, Jeanie Guiton; two sons, Billy Varner (Carol) and Bobby Varner (Julie); grandchildren, Dan Guiton, Nicholas Varner and Melody Varner; sisters, Shirley Lapann (Paul) and Judy Ann Robinson (Jeff); brothers, Wade Varner, Jr. (Gail), Bobby Varner (Linda), Johnny Varner (Judy) and Roger Varner; and several nieces and nephews, especially his loving niece, Renae Sheppard. Also surviving are his best friend and caregiver, Carrie Ann Fulbright; and his furry friends Bella and Lucky.
