Billie Joanne Hopkins

January 15, 1938 — April 6, 2025

Billie Joanne Hopkins, beloved mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 6th, 2025. She was 87 years old.

Born on a chilly Saturday, January 15th, 1938, she graced the world with her warmth and kindness from the very start. She was the cherished daughter of James William Flippin and Prudence Elizabeth Smith Flippin, who preceded her in death, along with her husband, Larry Douglas Hopkins Sr., their son Larry Douglas Hopkins Jr., her brother Arlen Wayne Flippin, and her beloved furry companion Dolly.

Joanne was survived by her devoted daughter, Cindy Hardin, and her husband Bob, her caring sister Jean Overbay, and her loving daughter-in-law Robin Hopkins. Her legacy continues through her three grandchildren: Shannon Hardin (Cody, deceased), Nikki Carreau and husband Eric, Mandy Clodfelter and husband Don, and her five great-grandchildren: Dawson, Eden, Paxton, Natalie, and Aubree. Joanne was deeply treasured by her nieces and nephews, Teri Overbay, Cheryl Cantrell, Brandon Overbay and Daryl Flippin, along with her sister-in-law Belinda Flippin.

A woman of many talents and interests, Billie was famous for her green thumb, nurturing flowers and plants with great affection and feeding all wildlife that crossed her path. Her love for animals was remarkably evident, and she adored her family of furry companions. An avid Duke fan, she rarely missed a game, proudly cheering for her favorite Blue Devils, along with nephew Brandon Overbay, who ensured she never missed a game, calling to remind her of kick-off and tip-off. She also found great joy in the great outdoors, cherishing her camping adventures. Her sense of humor brightened the lives of everyone around her and made each day better simply by sharing a laugh.

A private graveside service will be held to honor a life so beautifully lived and so greatly cherished.

Arrangements are provided by Davidson Funeral Home Hickory Tree Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of Davidson County at 200 Hospice Way, Lexington, NC 27292, an organization Billie held in high regard.

Billie Joanne Hopkins will be profoundly missed, but her spirit will live on in the hearts and memories of those who knew and loved her.
