Mrs. Billie Ruth Sharpe Swicegood, 92, of Swicegood Road, died Thursday, September 17, 2026, at Davidson Health and Rehab in Lexington.

She was born on September 2, 1934, to the late Paul Theodore and Mary Frank Sharpe.

Billie was a longtime member of Tyro Methodist Church, where served in many capacities. She sang in the choir for 30 years, served as Director for 12 years, and also played the piano and organ. Mrs. Swicegood also served on the church counsel for many years, taught Sunday School and childrens’ classes, and worked as Youth Director. She also taught the Faith, Hope, and Love, Willie Meachem Class. She was a member of “Women of Hope”, Tyro Super Seniors, and West Davidson Seniors. Billie enjoyed working in the yard and around the house. She was known for making meatloaf, potato salad, chocolate cakes, sweet potato pies, and banana puddings for others’ special occasions. Mrs. Swicegood will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend to many.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Arnold Grey Swicegood, and two sisters, Cora Mae Mock and Loretta Parks.

Survivors include her son, Marcus Swicegood (Lynette) of Linwood; a step-grandson, Jacob Berrier; two step-great-grandchildren, Autumn and Natalie Berrier; and many nieces and nephews, Lynne Michael, Steve Mock (Teresa), Michael Parks, Theresa Athay (Lee), Barry Swicegood (Julie), Nelson Swicegood (Lisa), Greg Fritts (Gerry), Steve Fritts (Marty), Tom Fritts, Julie Swicegood, and Leigh Ann Swicegood.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, September 22, 2026 at Tyro Methodist Church, with Rev. Randy Foster officiating. Interment will follow in Bethel Cemetery. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service at the church.

The family requests no flowers. Instead, please make a donation in Billie’s honor to Tyro Methodist Church, Memo: New Building Fund, 4484 S. NC Highway 150, Lexington, NC 27295.
