Billy Griffin Hartley, 85, of Allred Road, died Tuesday, May 4, 2010, at Hinkle Hospice House following an illness of three months.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday, May 7, 2010, at Memorial United Church of Christ, where he was a member, with the Rev. Kevin Gilliam officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military graveside rites by VFW Post 3074. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. in the church fellowship hall and other times at the home on Allred Road.
Mr. Hartley was born May 20, 1924, in Davidson County to David Pinkston Hartley and Blanche Palmer Hartley. He was raised in Lexington by C.L. and Ada Hedrick. Mr. Hartley served in the U.S. Army Air Corp. during World War II and later was employed at Mid State Petroleum Company, formerly known as Buck Young Oil Company and was a member of VFW Post 3074. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother Robert Hedrick; and sister, Essie Hedrick Leonard.
Surviving are wife, Doris Kepley Hartley; daughters, Melanie Welborn and husband, Bill, and Angie Gray and husband, Bob, all of Lexington; four grandchildren, Jamie McMillan, John McMillan and wife, Shannon, Griffin Gray and Bailey Gray; great-grandchild, Ally McMillan.
